NEW Handmade Halloween Journal Has Creeped Into My Shop

There is something about Halloween paper that makes it impossible to stop once you begin.

One black cat leads to a haunted house. The haunted house leads to a stack of orange envelopes. Then come the witches, skeletons, old book pages, lace, ledger paper, pumpkins, bats and mysterious little tags tucked into every available corner.

And before long, a new handmade Halloween journal has crept quietly onto the worktable.

This one is now finished and available on my website.

Handmade Halloween junk journal featuring vintage black cats, witches, ghosts, pumpkins, haunted houses, tags, pockets and layered vintage papers.

A Vintage Black Cat Halloween Journal

The cover features a striking black cat sitting beneath a large orange moon, surrounded by bats, pumpkins, bare trees and a haunted house in the distance.

I layered the artwork over vintage dictionary paper and mounted it onto a sturdy black cover. An ornate metal hand clasp finishes the front and gives the journal a slightly strange, old-curiosity-shop feeling, which is exactly what I wanted.

The journal feels festive and traditional, but not overly cute. It has plenty of orange and black, along with aged cream paper, touches of green, purple and brown, and lots of old-fashioned Halloween imagery.

Made for Writing, Collecting and Creating

This journal can be used in many different ways.

You might fill it with Halloween memories, photographs, recipes, costume ideas, autumn outings, favourite spooky films or notes from October.

It could also become a place to keep postcards, ticket stubs, labels, small drawings, family stories or bits of seasonal ephemera collected over time.

Or it can simply be enjoyed as a handmade paper collection, full of pages to explore and little discoveries to uncover.

There are no rules hiding in these pages. Only possibilities.

Handmade and One of a Kind

Every ila & alice journal is made by hand, one page and pocket at a time.

Although I may return to similar colours or themes, no two journals are ever exactly alike. The papers, illustrations, trims and found materials come together differently each time.

That is part of what I love most about making them.

Each journal develops its own peculiar personality along the way, and this one clearly decided it belonged to a black cat who lives somewhere between the pumpkin patch and the haunted house. 🐈‍⬛
